    L.A. Dance Project Gala
    Branding & Design / Web & Interactive

    We Move to Move You

The beloved Los Angeles-based modern dance company, L.A. Dance Project, holds an annual Gala in support of their year round work. The evening is a celebration of dance and collaboration featuring dinner, speeches and performances by Company dancers and the organization’s youth dance program – The Gabriella Foundation. The much-anticipated Gala is attended by donors and patrons of the arts and supporters of the organization.

The design theme of the 2019 Gala drew a historical and contemporary connection between the South of France and Los Angeles, through a trifecta of wine, food, and dance. Kilograph designed distinctive branding and promotional materials for the event, drawing inspiration from the Gala’s theme and the L.A. Dance Project’s essential embodiment of movement and rhythm. Aesthetic notes from the event’s environment, and the beloved indoor-outdoor art gallery setting of Hauser & Wirth DTLA, were also incorporated into the materials. The branding echoes the gallery’s urban-industrial cement greys blended with the sage green of scenic foliage, softened by a pale pink wash inspired by L.A.’s picturesque sunsets. A custom distressed font was created to draw these connections together and is supported by a selection of typefaces that combine the modernness of L.A. Dance Project’s work and the elegance of dance. Central to all of L.A. Dance Project’s visual communication is their powerful photography highlighting the undulating movement of performers which was another key part of the promotional materials.
