We are interested in the power of the virtual and the augmented to elicit excitement around great ideas and to engage communities. LA’s Silver Lake Reservoir was drained last summer leaving a vacant 96 acre pit in the heart of Los Angeles. We saw an opportunity to create a our interpretation of the future of this historic L.A. landmark.
Using our Silver Lake Portal mobile app, users can view a dreamscape of the reservoir in augmented reality (AR), explore our vision in virtual reality (VR), and learn about the history of the locale. While many initiatives for repurposing the lake exist, we hope to build on this momentum by introducing another kind of engagement; a playful interactive tool to get people talking and dreaming about new narratives for these kinds of defunct urban sites.
